10 New Individual Inductees and

Two Teams

The Fair Lawn High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee announced 10 individuals and two teams have been elected to the FLHS Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024. It will be the first induction since 2018 — a six-year pause due to the pandemic. The Class of 2024 will include two individuals and one team selected as part of two exciting new categories added by the committee to the selection criteria this year. The 2011 boys volleyball state championship team was elected, as were two of its greatest standouts, Daniel Nugent (2011) — the 2011 New Jersey State Player of the Year — and current professional player Oren Zyndorf (2011). Joining them in the Hall of Fame are baseball athletes Paul Cingire (2004) and the late Tony Giresi (1967). Girls tennis all-time great Valerie Shklover (2014), boys hockey high scorer Daniel Woodall (2003), girls basketball 1,000-point scorer Nicole Sisco Schoeneich (2009), and Kaitlin Guy Kachonick (2005), who excelled in girls basketball, softball and volleyball, round out the impressive individuals elected. The FLHS Athletics Hall of Fame Committee established a new category beginning in 2024 — Outstanding Sports Career candidates — to honor individuals or coaches who have gone on to achieve success in a sports career after leaving Fair Lawn High School. Legendary collegiate baseball Hall of Fame and national championship winning coach Norm Schoenig (1969) will be the first-ever inductee in the new category. Meanwhile, the FLHS Athletics Hall of Fame Committee also launched a Veterans Subcommittee for the first time in 2024 as a new component of the Hall of Fame, charging it with identifying individuals or teams that last competed a minimum of 40 years ago for consideration. The Veterans Committee elected football kicker Bennett Kass (1972) and the state champion 1968 Boys Lacrosse Team as the first-ever inductees voted into the Hall of Fame by the committee. The Class of 2024 will be honored on Saturday, October 5, 2024 during a full day of induction ceremonies and activities, beginning at 12 p.m. with a Hall of Fame Brunch at the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad, followed by a walk-thru of the FLHS Hall of Fame hallway, and a halftime introduction during the Cutters home football game against Tenafly beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Sasso Field. The weekend will culminate with the 2024 Hall of Fame Induction Dinner which will be held at The Knights of Columbus on Maple Avenue. Veteran sports announcer and Hall of Fame member and committee member Ira Thor (1995) will serve as the master of ceremonies. There will also be a Pre-HOF Get-To-Together on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 6 p.m. at The Dutch House on Fair Lawn Avenue.
